Isaiah Morgan

Isaiah Morgan ( born April 7, 1897 in Bertrand, Louisiana, † May 11, 1966 ) was an American cornetist and bandleader of the Hot Jazz.

Life and work

Isaiah Morgan came from a musical family in New Orleans. His brothers were also active as a musician ( Sam Morgan on trumpet, Andrew as a clarinetist, Al Morgan double bass and tuba ). In 1922 he founded the Young Morgan Band, the Sam Morgan 's Jazz emerged from the band led by his brother Sam with Andrew Morgan at the woodwinds. Recordings were made in 1927 for Columbia Records in a session in Werlein 's Music Store. After Sam Morgan's stroke in 1932 Isaiah took the band to play up in the 1950s in the Gulf of Mexico near Biloxi. In 1955 the live album Dance Hall Days, Vol 1; the following year he retired from the music business.
