The river in Grenoble

The Isère ( Isara in antiquity ) is a river in France, which runs in the Rhône -Alpes. It rises in the Savoy Alps near the border with Italy, in the Vanoise National Park. The headwaters is named after the river glacier Glacier des Sources de l' Isère, extending on the north flank of the Grande Aiguille Rousse. The actual source is located at the Col de la Vache in the municipality of Val d' Isère. The river drains despite major changes in direction generally in a southwesterly direction and flows after 286 kilometers below Pont -de- l'Isère, north of Valence, as a left tributary of the Rhône. The Isère crosses on their way the departments of Savoie, Isère ( for which it is named ) and Drôme.
