Ituri Interim Administration

Ituri is since 1966 a district of Orientale province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Under the Constitution of 2005 should be charged to the province of Ituri, Administrative reform but was postponed several times and canceled in 2011. Ituri is located in the northeast of the country, on the border with Uganda and South Sudan, its capital is Bunia.

In resource-rich district lies the Ituri rainforest. The river Aruwimi called to its headwaters Ituri, rises here.

International Ituri was primarily known for the 1999 erupted Ituri conflict between the Lendu and Hema ethnic groups.

The Ituri district is divided into the following territories: Aru, Djugu, Irumu, Mahagi, Mambasa

Health service

Ituri is known as the one area in which the plague is the most common. According to the World Health Organization there are annually about 1000 Pesttote here. A major outbreak occurred between mid-May and 13 June 2006 in the region of Santé Linga with over 100 reported ( and an unknown number of unreported ) dead.
