Izaline Calister

Izaline Francisca Juanita Calister ( born March 9, 1969, Curaçao) is a Dutch singer, composer and songwriter.

Life and work

Izaline Calister grew up on Curaçao, where he attended college. In 1987 she went to the Netherlands, where she initially in Groningen management economics and then at the Prins Claus Conservatorium studied music.

After working in several Latin jazz ensemble, she was accepted as the successor of Angélique Kidjo in the project Pili Pili by Jasper van't Hof. Later, she also sang with other groups, as in the late 1990s at the German group dissidents, with whom she recorded the album Live in Europe.

2000 she released her first solo album sono di un Muhe ( Dream of a woman ). In her compositions, she combines the rhythm-driven music of her homeland as Tambu, Ritmo combination, Tumba and Muzik di Zumbi with elements of jazz. In an interview, she stated, especially by the artists Richard Bona, Dianne Reeves, Cassandra Wilson and Sara Tavares to have been inspired. She sings in her native language Papiamentu.

In 2007 Miluska Rosalina filmed the documentary Izaline Calister: Lady Sings the Tambu.

Izaline Calister lives in Groningen.
