Jaan Kirsipuu

Jaan Kirsipuu ( born July 17 1969 in Tartu, Estonian SSR) is an Estonian cyclist.

Jaan Kirsipuu was a professional cyclist in 1993. From 1998 to 2004 Kirsipuu went for the French team Casino ( 2000 AG2R renamed). From 2005 he worked for the French team Crédit Agricole under contract. Kirsipuu was one of the most consistent sprinters in cycling. At times, he had the most success of all active cyclists are at Beech by Erik Zabel and Mario Cipollini, which he achieved especially at smaller race in France and Belgium.

At the Tour de France Kirsipuu 1999, 2001, could decide in 2003 and 2004 a stage for itself. He was the first ( and so far only ) Estonian stage winner ever. He also wore each for a few days the yellow and green jersey of the Tour. Eleven Tour participations Kirsipuu but never reached the finish in Paris, giving it the absolute negative record.

On 5 October 2006 Jaan Kirsipuu announced to end his career at the end of the season. The cycling classic Paris -Tours was the last professional cycling race, in which Kirsipuu started. Overall, the Este won more than 130 victories in his 15 - year career. Even after the end of his professional career started Kirsipuuu further, primarily at regional cycling and so won more national titles twice.

In 2009 Kirsipuu announced his comeback; In the same year he won another seven victories and succeeded him as the only professional cyclist to win 2009 races on four continents. From 2010 to 2012, the now 43 -year-old Kirsipuu went for the Champion System team at the start.

End of the 2012 season, he finished his career as a professional cyclist and from 2013 he is sports director at Astana Pro Team.
