Jack Stewart (ice hockey)

John Sheratt "Black Jack" Stewart ( born May 6, 1917 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba, † 26 May 1983) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1938 to 1952 for the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.

Career

It is not certain whether Stewart because of his black hair, or because of the balance he brought to the ice, had received his nickname "Black Jack". It corresponded to the defensive back, as found in the textbook. In the 1940s, he was one of the strongest defenders of the NHL, what 5 nominations show to the All- Star team. The Stanley Cup he won in 1943 and 1950 with the Detroit Red Wings. Along with Harry Lumley he was delivered to the Chicago Blackhawks in 1950. In turn, came to the Blackhawks among others Gaye Stewart.

After his playing career, he worked as a trainer in the lower leagues.

In 1964 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
