Jacques d'Amboise (bishop)

Jacques d' Amboise ( † December 27, 1516 ) was a French cleric. He was abbot of Jumièges (1474-1504), Abbot of Cluny (1485-1510), Bishop of Clermont (1505-1516) and minister of Louis XII ..

He was the son of Pierre d' Amboise, Lord of Chaumont, Meillant, Sagonne, Les Bordes and Bussy, the comrades in arms of Joan of Arc, and the Anne de Bueil.

Jacques became a monk at Cluny and in 1474 Abbot of Jumièges as successor to his brother Louis, who had been appointed bishop of Albi. When he in 1504 by King Louis XII. was made bishop of Clermont, he gave up Jumièges.

Jacques d' Amboise is the owner of the Hôtel de Cluny in Paris, which he had, set up in the immediate vicinity of Roman ruins, the baths. 1515 he was in Clermont build a fountain that still bears his name today.
