Ralph Lewis " Jake" Lanum (* September 13, 1896 in Champaign, Illinois, USA, † March 19, 1968 ) was an US- American football player. He played in the National Football League ( NFL) for the Chicago Bears.

Career

Jake Lanum studied at Millikin University and the University of Illinois. In 1918, he was honored by the University of Illinois for his sporting achievements. 1920 wrote Lanum a professional contract with the Decatur Staley that the newly formed APFL, the predecessor of the NFL belonged and were renamed in 1921 in Chicago Staley and later in Chicago Bears. Head coach of the team from Chicago was George Halas, who was also active as a player for the team. As is usual for that time Lanum was used in both the Defense, as well as on offense, but got mostly use time as a fullback. 1920 was the Staley quit the championship as a table runner, in the following year won Lanum with his team the NFL championship. After the 1924 season, Jake Lanum ended his career.
