Jakob Klaesi

Jacob Klaesi - Blumer (* May 29, 1883 in Luchsingen; † August 17, 1980 in Knonau ) was a Swiss psychiatrist, who is known for the introduction of the Sleep Treatment.

Biography

From 1903 to 1909 Klaesi studied medicine in Zurich, Kiel and Munich. In 1912 he received his doctorate in Zurich. After that Klaesi medical assistant and later chief physician at Eugen Bleuler at the Psychiatric University Hospital in Zurich Burgholzli, where he habilitated in 1921. From 1923 to 1926 he was head of the newly opened University Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic and senior physician at the Psychiatric University Hospital in Basel Friedmatt. Subsequently, he founded and led the private clinic Knonau Castle in the canton of Zurich. In 1933 he became director of the Psychiatric University Hospital in Bern Waldau. From 1933 he was an Associate and 1936-1953 Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Bern. In 1934, he founded the Department of Psychiatry Bern. In the academic year 1950/51 he was rector of the University of Bern.

Klaesi stood somatic treatment methods skeptical, although he developed the psychiatric Sleep Treatment with the drug Somnifen to 1920. He was especially psychotherapist and interested in the psychodynamics of his patients. Based on his experiences, he began to develop a phenomenological expression analysis.

Klaesi also wrote poems and dramas.
