James Daly (actor)

James Firman Daly ( born October 23, 1918 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, † July 3, 1978 in Nyack, New York) was an American film and theater actor.

Life

Daly attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1941 from Cornell University. After graduation, he did his military service in World War II. From 1946, he was on Broadway on stage. In the coming years, Daly often shuttled between Wisconsin and New York back and forth.

Daly was able to establish more in the theater than in film and television. Among his most successful theater productions counts Major Barbara by George Bernard Shaw what Daly in 1951 awarded the Theatre World Award. He also embodied in the early summer of 1964 in AE Hotchners stage production The White House eight U.S. presidents, including George Washington and Theodore Roosevelt.

His most famous film was produced in 1968 Planet of the Apes. In the same year he turned next to Bud Spencer and Peter Graves the spaghetti westerns The five dreaded. He also guest starred in several television series and had 1969-1976 a starring role in the Doctor series Medical Center. In 152 episodes of the series he presented Dr. Paul Lochner dar.

James Daly died three months before his 60th birthday, of a heart attack. His ashes were scattered into the Pacific. With his wife, stage actress Hope Newell, whom he had married during a home leave in 1942, he had three children. His daughter Tyne Daly was known by the Cagney & Lacey series. His son Timothy Daly worked as an actor. The daughter of Glynn is married to film composer Mark Snow. The actress Kathryne Dora Brown his granddaughter.
