James Hoy, Baron Hoy

James " Jimmie " Hutchison Hoy, Baron Hoy, of Leith in the County of the City of Edinburgh PC ( * January 21, 1909; † August 7, 1976 ) was a British Labour Party politician, who for 25 years Member of the House of Commons was in 1970 due to the Life peerages Act 1958 as a life peer member of the House of Lords.

Life

Hoy, after attending the Causewayside and Sciennes Public Schools in Edinburgh as an interior decorator.

In the lower house elections on July 5, 1945 Hoy was elected for the Labour Party in the constituency of Leith for the first time to MPs in the House of Commons and was too blatantly enforce against former multiple Minister Ernest Brown case with a majority of 9,455 votes, which since a by-election ( By-election ) in March 1927 held that constituency for the National Liberal Party. During his first term he was 1947-1950 Parliamentary Private Secretary Arthur Woodburn, the Scotland minister ( Secretary of State for Scotland ) the government of Prime Minister Clement Attlee.

After the dissolution of the constituency Leith Hoy was elected in the general election on February 23, 1950 in the newly created constituency of Edinburgh Leith for the Members of the House of Commons and was part of this until the elections of 18 June 1970. During this time he was in 1957 Vice President of the Trustee Savings Bank ( TSB).

After the election of the Labour Party in the general election on October 15, 1964 Hoy was by Prime Minister Harold Wilson to the Parliamentary Secretary ( Parliamentary Secretary ), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry ( Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food ) appointed and held these junior ministerial posts to to the defeat of his party in the general election on 18 June 1970. In this capacity he was one of the last Cledwyn Hughes closest collaborators of the former Minister Fred Peart, respectively, together with the simultaneously acting as Parliamentary Secretary John Mackie. During this time he was appointed on 25 June 1969, the Privy Councillor.

By Letters Patent of July 4, 1970 Hoy was due to the Life peerages Act 1958 as Life peer with the title Baron Hoy, of Leith in the County of the City of Edinburgh member of the House of Lords and was this until his death.

To him, the Jimmie Hoy Street was named in the Edinburgh Leith honor.
