James L. Holloway III.

James Lemuel Holloway III. ( Born February 23, 1922 in Charleston, South Carolina ) is a retired American admiral of the U.S. Navy and Chief of Naval Operations.

Biography

Holloway is a son of Admiral James L. Holloway, Jr. (1898-1984), who was among other things, from February 1958 to March 1959 Commander of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe (United States Naval Forces Europe ).

He resigned after the completion of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1942 in the U.S. Navy and was used among other things as a naval aviator.

During his military career, he was commander of the 1972-1973 operating in the western Pacific and Indian Ocean U.S. 7th Fleet. After that he was from September 1973 to June 1974 Vice Chief of Naval Operations.

Following Admiral James L. Holloway III was. on June 29, 1974 even chief of naval operations (Chief of Naval Operations ), and thus the highest-ranking officer and chief of staff of the U.S. Navy. He continued in this position until his retirement on July 1, 1978.

Even after his retirement from active military service, he remained connected to the Navy and was not only time as Chairman of the Association of Naval Aviation ( Association of Naval Aviators ), but also chairman of the Naval History Foundation ( Naval Historical Foundation).

In addition, he was involved in numerous other institutions and was a board member of the Defense Forum Foundation, trustee ( Trustee ) of the George C. Marshall Foundation and a board member of the George and Carol Olmsted Foundation.
