James Tien (actor)

James Tien (Chinese田 俊/田 俊, Pinyin Tian Jun, as James Tien Chun, born May 28, 1942 in Guangdong, China) is a Chinese actor, who appeared mostly in martial arts and kung fu movies. He played with well known martial artists such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. He joined mostly in supporting roles or as a villain.

Life

James Tien was born in the village of Chao'an. In 1958 he moved with his family to Hong Kong.

With its accession at the Shaw Brothers in the late '60s Tiens began career. He made his debut in 1968 in the film That Fiery Girl, he had his first major role a year later in the movie Raw Courage, directed by Lo Wei. After he moved in some Shaw Brothers films for Golden Harvest. Played there in 1971 on the side of Bruce Lee in the film The Death Fist of Cheng Li with, again directed by Lo Wei. With Lee and Wei Tien also worked in their next movie death Greetings from Shanghai. A third collaboration with Lee was with my last fight. In the original version of the film Tien had a larger role on the side of Lee. After Lee's death Tiens role has been massively reduced in the finished film, as the original scenes had been considered lost. In the finished film Tien appeared only on in a scene.

Tien played in 1976 in John Woo film Hand of Death on the side of the "three brothers " Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao with. After a year later appeared in Hung's film debut, The Iron - Fisted Monk, he played in many of the films of the three small roles, usually as a villain, for example, Winners and Sinners, Dragon Hero, Tokyo Powerman and Action Hunter. Tien also often worked together with Lo Wei.

His last role was James Tien in 1996 in the film How to Meet the Lucky Stars. 2000 he retired from acting.
