Jan Matura

Jan Matura ( born January 29, 1980 in Český Krumlov ) is a Czech ski jumper and former nordic combined. He is a physical education teacher and starts for Dukla Liberec.

Career

Nordic Combined

In Schonach Jan Matura debuted in 1999 in the Nordic Combined World Cup. By 2001, he participated in ten World Cup, but could never repeat his best finish, a ninth place in a Gundersenwettbewerb in his first competition. 1997 in Trondheim, 1999 in Ramsau and 2001 in Lahti Matura participated in Nordic World Ski Championships. His start in single race in 1999 and 2001 were not very successful, but he missed the 1997 season winning a medal in fourth place just barely.

Ski Jumping

Since his results stagnated in combination mainly because of poor performance in cross-country skiing, Matura moved to the ski jumping. In his first race in 2002 during the Four Hills Tournament, he finished last in the first round. For the first time the finals he came in 2003 in ski flying in Planica ( 24 ). His first placement in the top ten in a single jump he had finished ninth on the large hill on January 22, 2006 in Sapporo. Almost five years later, he was able to achieve his best result up to that point in a World Cup competition at the same venue on January 16, 2011 with fourth place. Two years later, on 19 January 2013, it again is surprising his first World Cup win was in Sapporo. In the second competition in Sapporo the next day he was again victorious.

When ski flying in Harrachov Czech Matura reached in early February 2013, a third place for the first time a podium in this discipline. Later that day he was on the same jump behind Gregor Schlierenzauer in second.

21 February 2010 Matura could win first jumping of the second-class Continental Cup in Thuringia Brotterode. His second victory in this competition he succeeded on 14 July 2012, when he won his first international competition at the new Olympic ski jumping in Sochi. After he won also one of the two competitions in Kuopio for in August, he won by a third place in the penultimate jumping on September 22 in Klingenthal prematurely the summer rating of the Continental Cup in 2012.

When ski jumpers took Matura part in two Olympic Games. 2002 Salt Lake City, he started on the normal hill ( 47 ) and in a team ( 12 ), 2006 in Turin ( Pragelato ) on the normal hill ( 21 ), large hill ( 22 ) and in the team competition ( 9 ). The five times he participated in Nordic World Ski Championships and Ski flying World Championships. His best finish in a single competition was a 20th place on the large hill at the 2003 World Championships in Val di Fiemme.
