Jan Schütte

Jan Schütte ( born June 26, 1957 in Mannheim ) is a German film director.

Life

Jan Schütte studied at the universities of Tübingen, Zurich and Hamburg, literature, philosophy and art history and began his career as a filmmaker with documentaries. His first, multi-award winning feature film Drachenfutter he turned in 1987.

Schütte's feature films had their premieres at the festivals in Venice ( Drachenfutter, Winckelmann travel, Old Love ), Cannes ( Goodbye America and farewell), Locarno ( Fat World ) and San Sebastian ( SuperTex ). Excellent was shaking among others, the German Critics Award 1987, the Adolf Grimme Prize and the German Film Award. Internationally, his work received recognition, including by the Prix Francois Truffaut, the Premio Italia Cinecritica and the Prix Unesco.

Schütte is a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the European Film Academy and the German Film Academy.

In addition to his work as a director Jan Schütte was in 2000 and 2008 Artist in Residence at Dartmouth College and 2005/ 06 and 2009/10 Visiting Professor at Harvard University.

Together with Peter Sehr Schütte founded the German branch of Atelier Ludwigsburg- Paris at the Film Academy Baden- Wuerttemberg and La fémis Paris, which he led with Very until the fall of 2010.

Since September 2010, Schütte is director of the German Film and Television Academy Berlin ( dffb). Under his leadership, the DFFB developed a close collaboration with internationally renowned universities such as Columbia University, New York, CalArts in Los Angeles, the London International Film School, the La Fémis in Paris and the FAMU in Prague.

Jan Schütte lives with his wife, Christina, Countess Szapáry, the Chief of Protocol at the Berlinale in Berlin.
