Jan Smeekens

Johannes Adrianus Albertus "Jan" Smeekens (born 11 February 1987 in Raalte ) is a Dutch speed skater who specializes in the sprint distances.

January Smeekens debuted in November 2005 at the World Cup in Milwaukee. The 500 -meter European Junior Champion 2005 and Vice European Junior champion team of 2004 went so far ( November 2006) twice under the top 10 in the World Cup. In 2006 he was runner-up on the Dutch 500 - meter track behind January Bos and let it stars such heirs Wennemars, Gerard van Velde, Lars Elgersma and Stefan Groothuis behind.

At the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver Smeekens finished sixth over 500 meters. Four years later he won in Sochi with a Dutch silver triple victory over the same distance.
