Jan Zwicky

January Zwicky ( born May 10, 1955 in Northern Alberta, Canada ) is a Canadian philosopher, poet, essayist, and violinist.

Life

Zwicky January 1981 he received the B. A. at the University of Calgary and made the Ph.D. at the University of Toronto with a thesis entitled " A Theory of ineffability ." She then taught philosophy at Princeton University; Philosophy and interdisciplinary humanities at the University of Waterloo. She has largely taught creative writing and philosophy in North America and Europe: University of Western Ontario, University of New Brunswick, Banff Centre Writing Studio. She currently teaches philosophy at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. She is also a violinist with a strong interest in Baroque performance practice. As a violinist, she played with Canadian orchestras. Her passion for music and philosophy are often focused on their poetic works and their theoretical essays emphasize the overlap. Since 1986 she edited the poetry Bricks for books.

Zwicky was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, 1996-2009, where she taught both philosophy and interdisciplinary humanities courses. In summer 2009, she quit her job at the university to lead writing projects in Quadra Iceland.
