Janne Väätäinen

Janne Henrik Väätäinen ( born March 6, 1975 in Kuopio ) is a former Finnish ski jumper. From 2008 to 2010 he was head coach of the Finnish national ski jumping team.

Sports career

Väätäinen launched at the Junior World Championships in 1991 in Reit im Winkl first time in an international competition and won with the team the silver medal in the team competition. A year later, in February 1992, he started in Lahti for the first time in the World Cup, but was only 44 When shortly thereafter taking place Junior World Championship 1992 in Vuokatti he could win again with the team, the gold medal. In the season 1992/93 he took up with several World Cup competitions and was able to win his first World Cup points. As he constantly was also placed in the top 30 in the 1993/94 season, he participated in Lillehammer at the 1994 Winter Olympics. There he took on the normal hill 30 and he finished fifth with the team. After the Olympics, he took up at the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica in 1994 and finished in 14th place. A week later he could jump into the top ten at the World Cup in Thunder Bay as a rollercoaster for the first time. In the 1994/95 season Väätäinen participated only in four World Cup Jumping, in which he fought for a place in the second round. In the following season 1995/96 he often missed the points, but was on 28 February 1996 when jumping from his home hill in Kuopio celebrate his only podium finish in the World Cup third place. In the following years he only appeared sporadically in the World Cup and could only rarely reach the final. According to the 2000 /01 season, he finally ended his active career.

A trainer

2002 Väätäinen began to work as a coach of the Finnish B- team. In 2004 he was finally assistant coach of the senior national team. After the completion of the commitment by Tommi Nikunen he was introduced in April 2008 as the new head coach of the Finnish national team. He initially received a two-year contract.
