Jansen is an impact crater in the northern part of the Sea of ​​Tranquility. It is located east-southeast of the crater Plinius.

The rim of Jansen is narrow and low, pointing to the west side of a notch. The crater interior is relatively flat, which could indicate a flooding by lava. The crater floor is marked by a striking small Crater, which lies to the south- southwest halfway between center and edge of the crater.

To the northeast of the crater is named after him as the moon furrow Rima Jansen and the east rise rugged hill above the lunar surface. From the south-eastern edge of the crater, a low range of hills runs to the southeast. To the east lies beyond the Dorsa Barlow crater Cajal in the area of ​​the Sea of ​​Tranquility.
