Jaques Morelenbaum

Jaques Morelenbaum ( born May 18, 1954 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian cellist, composer, arranger, conductor and music producer.

Life and work

Jaques Morel tree grew up in a musical family. His father is Henrique Morelenbaum, who worked as a violinist, conductor, director general and artistic director of the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. His mother Sarah Morel tree was a piano teacher, his brother Lucia Morel tree of the Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira clarinetist, his brother Eduardo Morel tree conductor, composer, arranger and clarinetist. Jaques Morel tree is married to singer Paula Morel tree.

Jaques Morelenbaum spent by the occupation of his father as a child a lot of time at the Opera House. At the age of 12 he began to play the cello. He studied music in Brazil, moved to the New England Conservatory of Music later. His musical career began in the 1970s as a member of the progressive rock band A Barca do Sol. From 1984 to 1994 he played in the Nova Banda with Antônio Carlos Jobim, in shows, on tours and on recordings. He participated in the CD Antonio Brasileiro, which won a Grammy for best Latin jazz performance in 1996.

After the death of Jobim 1994 Morel tree -founded with his wife Paula, Jobim's son Paulo (guitar and vocals) and Paulo's son Daniel (piano and vocals), the Quarteto Jobim - Morelenbaum. The repertoire was based on the work of Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Jaques Morelenbaum worked with many Brazilian and international artists together, including the Brazilian singer, songwriter and composer Caetano Veloso, the musician and composer Egberto Gismonti, the singer Gal Costa, the Japanese composer, pianist, actor and producer Ryuichi Sakamoto (including a trio Morelenbaum ² / Sakamoto ) and the British musician David Byrne.

He created film music compositions, including along with Antonio Pinto for Central do Brasil, which in 1998 won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale for the best film, and the music for the film O Quatrilho. Both films were nominated for best foreign film Oscar. The discography by Jaques Morel tree includes more than 400 recordings.
