Jay Leno

Jay Leno (actually James Douglas Muir Leno, born April 28, 1950 in New Rochelle, New York ) is an American comedian and television presenter.

Leno, the son of a Scottish mother and an Italian father, started his career in small New York comedy clubs, where he tried his hand as a stand-up comedian. Because sometimes he graduated from eight to ten performances each evening, the television was soon noticed him. He had several appearances on David Letterman ( Late Night with David Letterman ) and Johnny Carson ( The Tonight Show ) and was soon so popular that NBC decided to make him Carson's successor at the audience. Since his departure in 1992 Leno hosted the Tonight Show, the oldest existing late night show in the world.

In 1989 he played in the American action-comedy by Lewis Teague with the title Detroit City - An incredible job (Original Title: Collision Course ) the police investigator Tony Costas.

When wrestling big event " WCW Road Wild 1998 " he joined with Kevin Eubanks and Diamond Dallas Page against Hulk Hogan and WCW President Eric Bischoff.

On 27 September 2004, the 50th anniversary of the Tonight Show, Leno announced that he would leave the show at the end of the season 2008/2009 in May 2009 and then continue the Conan O'Brien show as moderator. From September 2009 to January 2010 moderated Leno Jay Leno Show on NBC, which ran an hour before the Tonight Show and was finally deposed again. Since there were discrepancies between Conan O'Brien and NBC, he left again the Tonight Show, which was again moderated from March 2010 by Leno.

In March 2013 it was announced that Leno will be replaced when his contract expires in February 2014 by Jimmy Fallon. On February 6, 2014 his last show ran on NBC.

Car collector

Leno is also known internationally as a hobby collector of classic cars, present sports cars and motorcycles. A list drawn up in April 2006 listed 84 cars and 73 motorcycles in his possession. He has his own columns on this topic among others in the American magazine " Popular Mechanics ".

Leno had two guest appearances as a car enthusiast in the television series "Listen, Home Improvement ."

The motorcycle company Orange County Choppers has built for him a bike based on the Brough Superior from 1939. The production process was accompanied for the American Chopper TV series and aired in two parts, under the title Leno bike on the Discovery Channel.
