Jazz Meeting Berlin

The Jazz Meeting Berlin exists since 1997 and was launched as appearance Forum German and Czech jazz musicians by Helmut Degner and Joe Kučera.

Origins

On the Karlovy Vary Jazz Festival in the Czech Republic in 1997 known Berlin jazz musicians were performed with the support of the Berlin Senate. From this successful performance, the idea of a transnational musical exchanges arose. Initiators of the festival were the native of Prague and musician Joe Kucera, who found in Helmut Degner, the former head of the Protocol Department in the Senate of Berlin, an enthusiastic fellow.

From the outset, ufaFabrik in Berlin- Marie village was the central festival venue. Helmut Degner had used in the 70s for the very ufaFabrik and met with his suggestion on the great interest of those responsible there. 1997 began a series of recurring annual festival appearances with ever new program. Andreas Malliaris took over in 2006 the organizational part of Helmut Degner and shared with Joe Kučera the artistic director for 2006/2007.

Expansion of activities

Initially the focus was on joint presentation of jazz musicians from Germany and the Czech Republic at the center. Later, jazz groups from other nations participated. Enhanced cooperation with media partners, European cultural institutes and international sponsors has made the Jazz Meeting in recent years to a festival of European character are. The promotion of young musicians and the " Young Generation Jazz" will continue to be a major focus of artistic organization management.

Program to 2007

By 2007, found, as in previous years, exchange concerts in Prague. In the festival program of the Jazz Meeting 2007, inter alia, known German jazz musicians such as Heinz Sauer, Theo Jörgensmann, Torsten Goods and Michael Wollny occurred. Program from 2008

As of 2008, especially young jazz artists are presented under the motto " Young Generation Jazz " in Berlin. Since the Berlin Jazz Meeting 2008 festival is also a partner of the Popkomm, is " Young Generation Jazz" ( 10 to 15 October 2008) shortly after the music program at Popkomm ( 8 to 10 October 2008) take place.
