Tineke Postma

Tineke Postma ( born August 31, 1978 in Heerenveen) is a Dutch jazz musician (soprano and alto saxophone, composition).

Life and work

Postma began at the age of eleven years with the saxophone playing; in 1992 she was on stage with Candy Dulfer; Then she played in the big band Friesland. From 1996 to 2003 she studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and also at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, including David Liebman, Dick Oatts and Chris Potter. Her role models include Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane. As early as 2003 she appeared on the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival in Washington, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Jazz Festival in Vienne and Umbria Jazz and Fleurine. 2013 she worked as a quartet with Greg Osby, Linda Oh and Dan Weiss.

Your albums For the Rhythm, A Journey that Matters and The Traveller been well received by the critics in Downbeat, Rolling Stone or Jazzthetik. The original compositions Postmaster " evidence of bubbly musical inventiveness, which is nourished by a love for the heroes of the genre ."

Since 2005 she has worked as a lecturer at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

Prizes and awards

Postma received after the first Singer Laren Jazz Award (2002 ) in 2003 the Sisters in Jazz All Star Award and the 2004 Award of Heijmans Amersfoort Jazz Festival. In 2006 she was awarded the MIDEM International Jazz Revelation of the Year Award, 2009 with the Antibes Jazz de Juan Revelations Award 2009 by Jazz à Juan.
