Jean Baeza

Jean Baeza ( born August 20, 1942 in Algiers, † February 21, 2011 in Cannes ) was a French- Algerian football player. The central defender, who ran aground in the later 1960s for the Équipe Tricolore, completed over 150 games for Olympique Lyon won the Coupe de France in 1972 and 1973 Challenge of Champions there.

Career

Jean Baeza was born in 1942 in Algiers and began his career Racing Universitaire d' Alger in his home country before he in 1961 moved to Racing Club de Paris, a distinguished club in Division 1, the top division in France. However, he moved in the same year for AS Cannes in the Division 2, which represented his first stop in France's professional football and to which he would return once more to the end of his career. In Cannes Baeza came regularly used and positioned himself with the team mostly in the lower middle of the table, before surprisingly managed to carve out in the season 1964/65 in third place in the Division 1. Although the direct descent followed the following season back in the second tier, however, Baeza was able to present on a bigger stage, so it took the AS Monaco under contract at the end of this season.

For Monaco, he stood from 1966 to 1968 on the court and completed in this period 59 league games. In addition, in this period his commitment was in the French national team, for whom he made ​​his debut in a 4-1 success in qualifying for Euro 1968 on Poland. The Équipe Tricolore sat in their qualifying group as their group by, but failed in the quarterfinals to Yugoslavia, where Baeza from the match against Poland all five games played up to leaving.
