Jean Nelissen

Jean Nelissen ( born June 2, 1936 in Geleen, † 1 September 2010 in Maastricht) was a Dutch sports journalist.

Jean Nelissen was for many years until his retirement in sport director at the daily newspaper De Limburger. " De Neel ," as he was nicknamed, was the general public in the Netherlands mainly as a commentator on the NOS for the " Tour de France" announced on television, together with his colleague Mart Smeets. In his TV column, " De Avondetappe " he reported on historical events from cycling. Nelissen (who calls himself " the Dutch Watterott " named ) was famous for his encyclopedic knowledge of cycling history. In 2007, Nelissen its activities on television.

Nelissen, who was known for his whiskey and cigar consumption, authored 26 books, including De bijbel van de Tour de France, where you can look up all the results of the tour. He was also involved in drafting the Reglementair uit het Wiel rijden (betting driving provisions for cycling ). He most recently worked as a freelance journalist for De Limburger and the monthly magazine Wielerrevue. He was the uncle of former racing driver Danny Nelissen.

Jean Nelissen was also the ( one of two of the same name ) name to the Every man race " Jean Nelissen Classic" ( Vianden Vianden rubber Bach ), which is organized by the " Driebergse Tour Club " since 2002.
