Jean-Pierre Goyer

Jean -Pierre Goyer PC QC ( born January 17, 1932 in Saint -Laurent, Montreal, Quebec; † 24 May 2011) was a Canadian lawyer and politician of the Liberal Party, who was for several years a Member of the House of Commons and Minister.

Life

After schooling Goyer graduated from the College of St. Laurent and Ste College. Marie, which he finished with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A daraif following Studied law at the University of Montreal, he graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ) and took after a working as a lawyer.

In the general election of 8 November 1965, he was elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party for the first time to the MPs in the House of Commons and represented in this up to his mandate resignation on December 31, 1978 the constituency Dollard.

On August 30, 1968, he took his first government office with the appointment as parliamentary secretary to the Foreign Minister, which he held until September 30, 1970. On 22 December 1970 he was appointed by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to the Solicitor General in the 20 Government of Canada, in which he 27 November 1972, 1978 Minister of Supply and Services then until 23 November. In his tenure as Solicitor General was at the beginning of the 1970s, an extensive reform of the penal system, which led to an improvement in the attendance regulations of the accommodation, and employment and training situation, but also the clothes and haircuts of prisoners.

After retiring from government and the House of Commons, he joined as a lawyer again.
