Jean Swank

Hebb Jean Swank is an American astronomer and astrophysicist, who is concerned with X-ray astronomy.

Swank studied at Bryn Mawr College with a bachelor 's degree in 1961 and in 1967 at Caltech doctorate at Steven Frautschi in Physics ( Radiative Corrections to Neutrino - Electron Interactions ). She was 1966 to 1969 Assistant Professor at California State University, Los Angeles, 1969 to 1971 held the same position at Chicago State University, and from 1971 to 1974 at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. From 1975 she worked as Röntgenastronomin at the Goddard Space Flight Center of NASA, where she is researching as astrophysicist since 1977. She is project scientist at the Rossi X -ray Timing Explorer ( RXTE ) and developed for this the proportional counter array.

She also conducted research at the HEAO 1 and HEAO 2, on BBXRT, the EXOSAT and the OSO 8 She was Senior Scientist at the 2012 Gravity and Extreme Magnetism discontinued SMEX satellite.

In 1999 she received the Bruno Rossi Prize by Hale Bradt.
