JetLink Express

JetLink Express was a Kenyan airline based in Nairobi, based on the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

History

JetLink Express was registered in March 2006 as a Limited Company in Kenya and was a member of IATA. In 2005 JetLink Express took the commercial flight operations with flights from the nearby town of Juba in South Sudan.

The company introduced in November 2012 for financial reasons ceased to operate.

Destinations

JetLink Express operated from their base at the airport Jomo Kenyatta International in Nairobi, the Kenyan cities of Eldoret, Kisumu and Mombasa as well as various international destinations such as Bujumbura in Burundi, Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Khartoum in Sudan.

As of May 2011, the fleet of JetLink Express consisted of seven aircraft:

  • Bombardier CRJ100 2
  • Bombardier CRJ200 4
  • 1 Fokker F- 28-6000

Incidents

  • On 12 November 2009 it came to the study conducted on behalf of RwandAir Express flight WB205 to an accident on the Kigali airport with one dead and five wounded. The Bombardier CRJ100 with the registration 5Y - JLD lifted at 12:40 local time clock schedule from the airport towards Kigali Entebbe with ten passengers and five crew members on board off. Two minutes after the start of the captain requested permission to return to the airport due to technical problems with a clamping thrust levers. The plane landed safely and taxied to the gate. While the ground crew wanted to attach the chocks, the aircraft suddenly accelerated, turned to the right and slammed into the eastern wall of about 500 meters away VIP terminals. The thereby resulting fire was quickly extinguished. Eight passengers and five crew members were taken to hospital, a female passenger died in hospital. A member of the group consisting of two pilots and a flight engineer cockpit crew was rescued after three hours.
