Jim Ross

James William "Jim" Ross ( born January 3, 1952 in Fort Bragg, California ) is a former wrestling ring commentator.

Career

JR, as he is known, started his career as a referee. He then worked as a wrestling commentator in several independent leagues until he took over the job of a commentator on WCW and also briefly worked as a booker there. In 1993, Ross his WWF debut (now WWE) at Wrestlemania IX. First, he commented here on the side of Bobby Heenan. When he left the WWF took over Vince McMahon whose posts.

In February 1994, Ross was released and subsequently worked as a commentator for Smoky Mountain Wrestling and the Atlanta Falcons. In the same year he went back to the WWF and led there from 1999 on the side of Jerry Lawler through the weekly RAW broadcasts.

Also in several storylines Ross was actively involved. When he had to be operated on in 2005 gut, he was released in an angle of Vince and Linda McMahon. After unsuccessfully tested as a substitute Jonathan Coachman and Joey Styles, Ross returned, due to the negative fan reactions for the replacement team after recovering from surgery 2006.

March 31, 2007, Ross was taken as part of WrestleMania 23 of Steve Austin in the WWE Hall of Fame.

With a line-up change in June 2008 Ross was moved to SmackDown where he took over the post next to Mick Foley Michael Cole, who commented from now on RAW. In October 2009, he left the WWE again for health reasons.

In 2011 he returned to the side of Jerry Lawler in his feud with Michael Cole. He grew actively in the ring and commented briefly again RAW. From July 25 2011 to October 10, 2011 Ross was back on permanent display as a commentator on Raw and listen before he was released in a storyline.

Since June 2012 Ross commented on the show WWE NXT on the side of Byron Saxton and William Regal.

On September 11, 2013 Ross announced his professional retreat.

  • Ross played in " Man on the Moon " (including with Jim Carrey and Jerry Lawler ) his real job as a commentator.
  • He is married and has two daughters and two granddaughters.
  • He ran a barbecue restaurant in Norman, Oklahoma.
  • Jim Ross suffered Bell's palsy in 1994 a seizure ( facial paralysis ), whereupon parts of his facial expressions are affected. More seizures suffered Ross in 1998 and 2009.
  • He received in 2002 by the Pro Wrestling Illustrated the Stan Weston Award, which is characterized his life's work as a personality in wrestling.
  • In addition to membership in the WWE Hall of Fame, Ross is since 1999 in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. From Selbiger Ross received in the years 1988-1993, 1998-2001, 2006 and 2007 the award for Best Wrestling commentator.
