Jimmy Woods

Jimmy Woods ( born October 29, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American alto and tenor saxophonist of the West Coast jazz.

Life

From Woods' life little is known. He has made himself especially with two albums a name which he for the label Contemporary in Los Angeles recorded 1961-1963: the first, Awakening, 1961/62 together with trumpeter Joe Gordon and the second, Conflict, in March 1963 with Carmell Jones, Andrew Hill, George Tucker and Elvin Jones. His career began in 1951 in the band of Homer Carter. After some time as a soldier in the United States Air Force (1952-1956), he worked for other bands, for example, Roy Milton. He played in 1960 for Horace Tapscott and in the band of Teddy Edwards (Back to Avalon ); In 1961, he took with Joe Gordon Quartet ( Lookin ' Good). He looked around 1963 with the orchestra by Gerald Wilson. Between 1964 and 1965 he worked at Chico Hamilton ( The Dealer ). He also appeared in several TV shows in the U.S., as well as at the legendary Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. In Europe and Japan, he was seen in small tours.
