Joe Arroyo

Joe Arroyo ( born November 1, 1955 in Cartagena, † July 26, 2011 in Barranquilla ), was a Colombian singer and composer. His real name was Alvaro Jose Arroyo Gonzalez.

Biography

He had his first public performances at the age of eight years as a singer at dance events in his hometown. 1971 his talent by Ernesto Estrada, the producer of Fruko y sus Tesos was discovered, and he was for ten years a member of this formation. In 1981 he founded his own group, La Verdad in whose music he mixed different styles, such as salsa, compas, merengue, reggae and soca. 1983 would be his career almost been too late, as health problems and drug addiction nearly cost him life. It him but eventually managed to overcome this crisis and continue his career as a musician and singer. He died of multiple organ failure following a heart attack, he had already suffered on June 29, 2011.

Musical Achievements

One of his biggest hits was in 1986 Rebelión, which dealt with the rebellion of African slaves in Cartagena of the 17th century. His song La Noche was known by the Colombian singer Juanes over South America also.
