Johann Gottlob Harrer

Johann Gottlob Harrer (* 1703 in Görlitz, † July 9, 1755 in Karlsbad ) was a German composer and choirmaster.

Harrer studied music in Leipzig and Italy. Since 1731 he worked in the chapel of Count Heinrich von Brühl. This helped him after the death of Johann Sebastian Bach in 1750 for Thomaskantorat the Thomas School in Leipzig, which he held until his death.

Harrer composed predominantly instrumental music, including 27 symphonies, 24, orchestral suites, 51 Duets for Flute and Harpsichord Sonatas. In addition, two of him fairs with orchestra and an a cappella Mass, 47 cantatas, oratorios, passions, psalms and motets are preserved.
