Johann Joseph Abert

Johann Joseph Abert, also Jan Josef Abert ( born September 20, 1832 in Kochowitz ( Kochovice ) at Gastorf ( Hoštka ) ( Bohemia), † April 1, 1915 in Stuttgart ) was a German - Bohemian composer, conductor and double bassist.

Life

He studied at the Prague Conservatory with Josef Hrabě (double bass ) and Johann Friedrich August Wilhelm Ambros and Kittl (theory). In 1853 he received under Peter Joseph of Lindpaintner an engagement as a double bass player in the court orchestra in Stuttgart. He looked at the Stuttgart Opera from 1867 to 1888 as Kapellmeister and worked successfully as a composer. His works, including several operas and symphonies, found in his time great acclaim at home and abroad.

Abert composed operas, songs, chamber music and seven symphonies. His musical legacy is in the Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart and partly in German Literature Archive in Marbach. Numerous works Abert, including the Columbus Symphony, two Kontrabaßkonzerte, overtures, his string quartet, piano pieces, songs, and his fair came in recent years in concert halls in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and in the United States and partly on radio and TV to repeat performances.

His son Hermann Abert (1871-1927), professor of musicology in Halle, Leipzig and Berlin, published 1919/1921 - Building on Otto Jahn's monograph WA Mozart - a " revised and expanded edition ," which is still often cited today and be the first from our own scientific and artistic spectacle grown biography of Mozart. His granddaughter Anna Amalie Abert (1906-1996), Professor of Musicology in Kiel, continued her father's legacy, including with history of opera, 1994.
