Johann Nepomuk Oischinger

Johann Nepomuk Oischinger Paul ( born May 13, 1817 in Wittmann Mountain, † December 11, 1876 in Munich) was a German Catholic theologian and philosopher.

Life

Oischinger studied theology in Munich. In 1841 he was ordained in Regensburg. Soon back in Munich, he remained throughout his life an independent scholar and journalist.

Theology

His goal was to overcome the in his opinion defective medieval scholasticism, which he wanted to reach through a new system of philosophy and the scientific discussion of Catholic doctrine. Medieval doctrines he attacked in several works, as well as contemporary trends such as the Güntherianismus and the neo-scholasticism. His critique of Thomas Aquinas (see section works ) was indexed by the Vatican.
