Johanna Schall

Johanna Schall ( born September 19, 1958 in Berlin ) is a German actress and theater director.

Life

The daughter of Barbara Brecht - Schall and Ekkehard Schall and granddaughter of Helene Weigel and Bertolt Brecht began her theater training in Berlin in 1980. Their first permanent engagement as an actress she had from 1982 to 1984 at the Kleist Theatre Frankfurt ( Oder). Johanna Schall was from 1984 to 1997 member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. As a theater director, she began to work in 1993 and has appeared in this role at the theaters in Leipzig, Dresden, Chemnitz, Karlsruhe, Berlin and Bremen. From 2002 to 2007 she was the Acting Director of the National Theatre Rostock and then one years a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto. Since then she has returned to freelancing as a director.
