Johannes Cocceius

Johannes Cocceius actually John Coch or Johannes Koch ( born August 9, 1603 Bremen, † November 5, 1669 in Leiden ) was a Protestant theologian, and due to its systematic representations of one of the main representatives of the federal theology.

Cocceius was the son of the Bremen Town Secretary Timan Coch. His theological teachers were, inter alia, Matthias Martinius and Ludwig Crocius. 1626 he studied at the University of Franeker in John Maccovius, Amesius Wilhelm ( 1576-1633 ) and the Orientalists Sixtinus Amama. After studying in Leiden and Groningen to Coccejus resigned in 1630 then again in his home town before becoming a professor of Hebrew language, from 1643 went 1636 for theology to Franeker. In 1650 he accepted an appointment at the University of Leiden, where he fell ill in 1669 and died of the plague.

Johannes Cocceius was a brother of councilor Gerhard Cocceius, who participated as Bremer envoy to the negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia.
