The painter Johannes Voorhout was the son of the Amsterdam Master Watchmaker Cornelis Voorhout. Five years in Gouda were at the start of the apprenticeship of John Voorhout, a further five years in Amsterdam followed in John van Noort. 1670 married Voorhout in Amsterdam. Then, in the early 70s of the 17th century he worked in Hamburg. In 1707 he moved back to Amsterdam, where he died in 1723.

In the collection held by the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, there is a large painting Voor Houts and three small works that were created by the painter for the dollhouse of Petronella Oortman. His paintings of domestic music scene in 1674 is Museum of Hamburg History Hamburg.
