Jacobus Houbraken ( born December 25, 1698 Dordrecht, † November 14, 1780 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch engraver.

Life

Jacobus Houbraken, son of Arnold Houbraken, moved with his father to Amsterdam, where he worked for many years and, taking mostly Edelinck and Devret to role models, more than 600 portraits stood out, almost continuously, both in terms of the ease with which they are carried out as having a high value by the power of the paint.

His first major work was the art-historical portraits to his father's work. Of interest is the collection of portraits of the governors of the house of Orange- Nassau and the principal persons in January Wagenaars Patriotic history and a large number of scholars, poets, princes, statesmen, etc. Houbraken died 1780 in Amsterdam.
