John Augustus, Count Palatine of Lützelstein

Johann August von Pfalz- Luetzelstein (* November 26, 1575 at Castle Lviv, † September 18, 1611 at Burg Lemberg) was Count Palatine of Luetzelstein.

Life

Johann August was the second son of the Count Palatine Johann Georg I of Veldenz (1543-1592) from his marriage to Anna Maria (1545-1610), daughter of King Gustav I Vasa of Sweden.

Johann August succeeded his father in 1592 in the county of La Petite-Pierre, which he had received in the inheritance with his brothers Georg Gustav, and Georg Philipp Ludwig Johann II. Johann August resided, like his father, at Castle Luetzelstein.

In 1599, Johann August married to the already 50 - year-old Anna Elisabeth ( 1549-1609 ), daughter of the Elector Friedrich III. of the Palatinate, and widow of the Landgrave Philip II of Hessen- Rhein rock. The marriage remained childless.

Johann August as his parents and his wife buried in the crypt of the Church of Luetzelstein. His grave monument shows him together with his wife kneeling with eight ancestral coat of arms and two inscriptions. The county Luetzelstein fell after his death to his brother Johann Georg II

One of Johann August 1604 embossed silver coin with the bust of the prince on the front and on the reverse the Bavarian Palatinate next to the velden hiss coat of arms is considered rare quality.
