La Petite-Pierre

La Petite- Pierre ( German Luetzelstein ) is a commune with 622 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the Northern Vosges Natural Park.

Geography

Neighboring municipalities in the Northeast Zittersheim and Erckartswiller, in the east Weiterswiller, in the southeast Neuwiller- lès -Saverne, in the southwest Eschbourg, in the west and northwest Lohr Peter Bach, Struth and Hinsbourg.

Luetzelstein is about 15 km north of Saverne and about 30 km southwest of bit. The place Luetzelstein emerged from a surrounding castle Luetzelstein settlement. The castle is extremely significantly at the end of a mountain spur which protrudes far into the valley and then monitored one of the main passes of the Vosges, which connects the Alsace Lorraine.

History

The Luetzelstein castle was the end of the 12th century by Count Hugo, the son of Count Hugo von Blieskastel built. 1223 had the castle and county Luetzelstein the Bishopric of Strasbourg are plotted as a fief. Died in 1403 with Count Friedrich of the last Luetzel Steiner from the main line, leading to lengthy probate dispute between Frederick's uncle Burkhard von Luetzelstein and Frederick's sister, who was married to John of Leiningen, led. But since both Johann von Leiningen and the sons Burkhards died within a short time and without heirs, the entire county in 1462 from the Palatinate, whose suzerainty John had recognized, recruited as a completed fief, so that Luetzelstein was from then on under the Electoral Palatinate administration.

1553 were between the individual lines of the Wittelsbach family, the inheritance and ownership of new regulations, which the county Luetzelstein passed from the Palatinate of Pfalz- Zweibrücken. Duke Wolfgang of Pfalz- Zweibrücken left Luetzelstein 1563/67 his cousin Johann Georg I. von Pfalz - Veldenz stayed with its line city and the county to the extinction of the line of Pfalz- Veldenz 1694.

Duke Johann Georg von Pfalz - Veldenz resided at Castle Luetzelstein and founded in 1570 the city Pfalzburg best Vosges pass, the Saverne. Already in 1583 had the highly indebted Georg Johann, however, the Office Einarzhausen with the new city Pfalzburg to the Duchy of Lorraine sell, so that the county Luetzelstein lost almost half of its territory.

After the death of Georg Johann's 1592 first, his widow Anna Maria of Sweden, daughter of Gustavus Vasa I of Sweden, the regency. 1598 their sons shared in such a way the rule that the older, Georg, Gustav ( 1564-1634 ), the Veldenzer shares and the younger, Johann August ( 1675-1611 ), Luetzelstein received. Since Johann August and his brother and successor of George John II died without descendants, were all parts of the country to Georg Gustav's son, Leopold Ludwig von Pfalz- Veldenz - Luetzelstein. Since this also died without heirs, Luetzelstein 1694 fell back to the main line of Palatinate -Zweibrücken back.

1680 brought King Louis XIV of France by his claim of reunion on Luetzelstein as a French fief, which was confirmed by the Treaty of Ryswick in 1697. Although it remained nominally in the hands Zweibrücker as a French fief, but the castle was built by the royal fortress builder Vauban to the French fortress. 1801 came Luetzelstein for the Bas -Rhin in Alsace.

After 1815 the fort was again expanded and housed until 1870 a French garrison. 1872, the fort was closed and partially dragged the plants.

Even under the reign of the Elector Frederick II of the Palatinate are single evangelical preacher in Luetzelstein occupied, an official introduction of the Reformation Lutheran by confession, however, did not happen until 1558 under the supervision of the Strasbourg church president Johann Marbach. 1559 led Duke Wolfgang (as guardian for the minor nor Georg Hans) his own, also Lutheran church order in La Petite-Pierre, which was reprinted again with slight changes 1605.

By reunions came after 1680 back to an official admission of Catholic communities, where it was determined that in communities with only one church, these should be used by both denominations (so-called simultaneous church).
