Ingwiller

Ingwiller ( German Ingweiler ) is a commune with 4179 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. The community is involved in the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest -Vosges du Nord. She is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Hanau.

History

The oldest written mention of the village dates from the year 742 AD as Ingoniunilare, 785 as Ilununilare, in 1175 as Ingichwilre and 1178 in a papal bull of Pope Alexander III as Ingevilre.

At the request of Simon Lichtenberg rose Emperor Louis IV the Bavarian in 1345 the village Ingveiler the city Ingveiler, gave her according to the city of Haguenau, the same civic rights and freedoms and allowed the inhabitants thus to surround their city with walls, ditches and fences and a weekly market hold on Friday.

After the end of the Franco-German War 1870/71 166 inhabitants of the city Ingwiller attended the Frankfurt Peace of 1871 option, French citizens to remain (without having to leave the implied, the Alsace -Lorraine in the direction of (South) france ).

At the end of World War II ( from autumn 1944) there was fighting over Alsace -Lorraine (1944).
