Lochwiller

Lochwiller ( German hole hamlet ) is a municipality with 445 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the canton Marmoutier in the department of Bas -Rhin in Alsace region of France. She is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Marmoutier.

Geography

The village is situated in the Upper Rhine Valley and has no direct access to a secondary road; the network of roads is star-shaped. The area outside of the village center is used for agriculture especially. The neighboring municipalities are Schwenheim in the north, Wolschheim in the northeast, Kleingœft the southeast, Reutenbourg in the southwest and Marmoutier in the West. The nearest town is Saverne, nine kilometers west of Lochwiller.

Geothermal drilling

Through a failed geothermal bore in which an impermeable clay layer was pierced in 100 meters depth, groundwater from penetrating into soft rock strata, where it reacts chemically with calcium sulfate to form gypsum, which expands and the surface thereby raising. There are tears on building facades and sunken roads.
