Bouxwiller (Bas-Rhin)

Bouxwiller (German Buchsweiler ) is a commune with 3994 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region.

History

In the vicinity of Bouxwiller can prove settlement remains from the Roman period. Already in the 18th century remains of a Roman bath have been found.

Is first mentioned in writing Bouxwiller in a deed from the year 724, were paid as goods in Puxuwilare the monastery White Castle.

Bouxwiller was next to the castle of Lichtenberg, the center of the domain Lichtenberg, after the transition to Hanau -Lichtenberg in 1480 one of the main places of the county. As a result Bouxwiller flourished and became a town. Thus, a hospital was built in 1528 and 1612, the Latin School. 1545 Bouxwiller was reformed. On 1 March 1973 Bouxwiller merged with the municipality Imbsheim. This place has the character of a round village, although Rundlinge in Alsace are not common. The Rue de Fossé is a county road that serves as a driveway. Through the village center leads the Department of Road D6.

The villages Riedheim and Griesbach, like Imbsheim are in the south of the municipality, merged on the same date with Bouxwiller.
