Lorentzen

Lorentzen ( German Lorenzen ) is a commune with 209 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region.

Location

Lorentzen is in the Crooked Alsace on the glans removed seven kilometers from Sarre- Union and part of the namesake canton.

The neighboring municipalities in the canton of Sarre- Union Dehlingen in the north, place it in the north-east, the west and Domfessel Voellerdingen in the northwest. In the southeast Lorentzen borders Diemeringen, to the south Mackwiller in Canton Drulingen.

History

In the 14th century the Counts of Saarwerden let the water castle built. At this time Lorentzen was a fief of Kur- Trier. After Lorentzen in 1745 fell to Nassau- Saarbrücken, the castle served until 1793 as a widow seat of the Countess of Nassau- Saarbrücken.

The place name is derived from Laurentius of Rome, whose attribute, the rust is found on the coat of arms.
