John Barnes Chance

John Barnes Chance ( born November 20, 1932 in Beaumont, Texas; † August 16, 1972 in Lexington, Kentucky) was an American composer.

He graduated from the University of Texas with a Master of Music degree and then took on additional studies At Kent Kennan, C. Williams and Paul Pisk. His compositional knowledge allowed him to improve by playing in the Austin Symphony Orchestra at the timpani and operated as an arranger for the 4th and 8th U.S. Army Band. A scholarship enabled him to work from 1960 to 1962 as a freelance composer in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Chance has written works for various orchestras and chamber music ensembles and vocal music.
