John, Duke of Randazzo

John II of Sicily ( * 1317, † April 3, 1348 ) was Duke of Athens and Neopatria. He was the youngest son of King Frederick II of Sicily and Eleanor of Anjou, daughter of King Charles II of Naples. From his father he received the title of Marquis of Randazzo.

When in 1338 his older brother Duke William II died childless, John succeeded him as Duke of Athens and Neopatria. Unlike his brothers, he intended to personally travel to Greece to reign there, instead of the previously used vicars. 1344 he presented for an army of 400 knights and over 4,000 Almogàvers, but then took part in the regency in Sicily for his minor nephew, King Louis. In this time fell in Greece, the expansion of the Serbs under their Tsar Stefan Uroš IV Dušan, as well as in Constantinople Opel the power struggle between the Palaiologos and Kantakuzenen, of the particularly benefited the Ottomans. The rule of the Catalans in Athens itself fell into disrepair. 1348 visited the Sicilian courtyard Johann with 17,000 ounces of gold to support his government in Athens.

Johann was married to Cesarina Lancia, who were children:
