John Dyson, Lord Dyson

John Anthony Dyson, Lord Dyson, MR, PC, QC ( born July 31, 1943 in Leeds ) is a British lawyer and since October 1, 2012 Master of the Rolls.

Education and Family

Dyson was born the son of Richard and Gisella Dyson. He attended Leeds Grammar School and studied at Wadham College, Oxford University Classical Studies. He is an honorary member since 2001. He is married since 1970 with Jacqueline Carmel Levy, with whom he has two children.

Professional career

Practising barrister

1968 Dyson was admitted to the bar at Middle Temple. He first worked as a barrister in a well-known firm. Already in the year of his admission he was allowed to work on cases that were brought before the House of Lords. In the following years he specialized in cases of private international law and entered several times as a barrister at the House of Lords. 1982 appointed him to the Attorney General Elizabeth II. In 1986, he joined 39 Essex Street Chambers, a well-known firm of barristers in London, of which he took.

Activity as a judge

His first job as a judge took Dyson 1986. March 30, 1993, he was appointed judge of the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales and was knighted. In 1998 he was promoted to presiding judge a company specializing in Construction Law Chamber of the Court.

January 11, 2001 Dyson was appointed Judge of the Court of Appeal. At the same time he became a member of the Privy Council.

From 2003, he held the post of Deputy Master of the Rolls. After Anthony Clarke, Baron Clarke of Stone -cum- Ebony, 2009 announced his retirement as Master of the Rolls, Dyson followed him against all expectations, not after in office. Rather, he took over from 12 April 2010, the office of a judge at the UK Supreme Court. With his appointment were for the first time since the Court had begun work in 2009, occupied every twelve Judges.

With effect from October 1, 2012 Dyson was finally appointed Master of the Rolls, and gave in the course of his judgeship on the United Kingdom Supreme Court on after the former Master of the Rolls, David Neuberger, Baron Neuberger of Abbotsbury, as the new President was changed to exactly this.

Dyson was the first judge of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, which was awarded with admission to the office of judge pursuant to a royal decree of 2010 the title of Lord for life, without being a peer member of the nobility.
