John George Chedid

John George Chedid ( born July 4, 1923 in Eddé; † 21 March 2012) was Bishop of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles of the Syriac Maronite Church.

Life

John Chedid received after his ten years of study in Rome on 16 July 1952, the ordination of the Apostolic Exarchate of the United States of America. On September 1, 1955, he joined the succession of Thomas Aiken as pastor of the parish of Our Lady of Mt Lebanon in Los Angeles. In 1969 he was called by Pope Paul VI. appointed Chaplain of His Holiness with the title of Monsignor.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 13 October 1980 Titular Bishop of Callinicum dei Maroniti and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn. The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and all the East Anton Peter Khoraiche consecrated him on 25 January 1981 for the bishop; Co-consecrators were Francis Mansour Zayek, Bishop of Saint Maron of Brooklyn, Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir and, Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch. On November 12, 1978, he was appointed bishop of the Maronites choir.

On February 19, 1994, he was appointed the first bishop of the newly erected Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles. On 20 November 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
