John H. Bagley, Jr.

John Holroyd Bagley junior ( * November 26, 1832 in Hudson, New York; † 23 October 1902 in Catskill, New York ) was an American politician. He represented 1875-1877 and 1883-1885 the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Holroyd Bagley junior attended community schools. In 1851 he moved to California, where he worked in the mining industry, but also pursued other stores. Later he returned to New York. There he worked on the Hudson River in the steamboat business. He settled in Catskill in Greene County, where he pursued commercial transactions, but also the production of leather. Between 1860 and 1864 he was supervisor of the Town of Catskill. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1874 for the 44th Congress Bagley was in the 15th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Eli Perry on March 4, 1875. Since he gave up for reelection in 1876, he retired after March 3, 1877 from the Congress.

After his conference time he returned to his former commercial transactions.

In 1882 he was a candidate for the 48th Congress. After a successful election, he resigned on March 4, 1883 the successor of Thomas Cornell. Since he gave up for reelection in 1884, he retired after March 3, 1885 from the Congress. During his tenure, he presided over the Committee on Manufactures.

He then pursued banking and insurance operations. He was vice-president of Catskill Mountain Railway Co. and Trustee of the Village of Catskill. In 1888 he sat in the New York State Assembly. He ran unsuccessfully in 1896 for the 54th Congress. On 23 October 1902 he died in Catskill, and was then buried in the Village Cemetery.
