John I de Balliol

John, 5th Baron de Balliol ( † around 1268 ) was a Scottish high nobles Norman origin.

In 1233 he married the influential Dervorguilla of Galloway and was father of the future King John Balliol. With the support of the Bishop of Durham, he founded in 1263 to Balliol College, Oxford University. After Balliol death his widow made ​​arrangements for the continued existence of the College; she got capital and formulated in 1282 the college statutes which are still preserved.
